Tabernacle Bible Church formerly Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle is a multi-generational church committed to the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. As we gather together, we seek to reflect the character of God through biblical teaching, worship, and fellowship. On May 27, 2018 we will celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of Honesdale Gospel Tabernacle, now known as Tabernacle Bible Church.
"Our purpose is to glorify God by making biblical disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ in this community and around the world."
Core Values and Vision Statement
1. We value the sufficiency of Scripture as God's revealed truth.
"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." [2 Timothy 3:16-17]
Our Commitment is to expository preaching and teaching that helps believers to understand and apply the truth of God's Word. We believe that the Word of God is sufficient as the final authority for faith and practice of Christian living. We hold to the fundamental doctrines of God's Word and are set for the defense of the Gospel in a pluralistic world.
2. We value the soul of man for whom Christ died.
"And the Lord God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." [Genesis 2:7]
"For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" [Matthew 16:26]
Believing that man was created in the image and likeness of God we value human life. We believe that Jesus' death was sufficient to atone for every man and that every man needs to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ and come to faith in Christ in order for the death of Christ to be efficacious. We strive to treat every man with dignity.
3. We value Scriptural worship of God.
"But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." [John 4:23-24]
We strive to have biblical worship that glorifies God and exalts the Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. We desire to exalt God's name in genuine worship that is led by the Holy Spirit and offered to God through the Lord Jesus Christ in praise, thanksgiving, giving, and prayer. We believe that worship is both a corporate and indivudual expression that seeks to honor God for His redeeming grace and exalt His divine nature as God.
4. We value servant leadership within the Church.
"Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly, nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock: and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away." [I Peter 5:2-4]
Tabernacle Bible Church is led by biblically qualified Elders and Deacons that are to serve the church with servant leadership and to model Christian living before the congregation. The pastors and elders are to equip the saints for the work of the ministry that they might serve one another in love, unity, grace and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Servant leadership is to be exemplified in every place of leadership in the congregation.
5. We value salvation through Christ alone.
"Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." [John 14:6]
"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved." [Acts 4:12]
Believing that Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation we will strive as a local church to be faithfully communicating the gospel of Jesus Christ both locally and through our missions outreach globally. Missions is a vital part of our vision for our ministry and we will always strive to enlarge the impact of this congregation on the world for the sake of the gospel.
